WITCH Add Sydney Opera House Show to 2024 Australian Tour

Zamrock greats WITCH – aka We Intend to Cause Havoc – have added a performance in the Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room to their 2024 Australian tour. WITCH have already been confirmed for Brunswick Music Festival, Brisbane Powerhouse’s ΩHM Festival, Perth Festival, Golden Plains and WOMADelaide.

Led by vocalist Emanuel “Jagari” Chanda, WITCH were pioneers of the 1970s Zamrock movement, which infused traditional southern and eastern African music with strains of psychedelic rock, blues and funk. They released several albums, including In The Past (1974) and Movin’ On (1980), before ceasing activity in the mid-1980s.

WITCH reformed in 2012, with Chanda again at the core. They’ve been touring steadily over the last couple of years, playing shows across the USA, UK and Europe. The album Zango surfaced in June 2023; WITCH’s first LP in nearly four decades.

The album includes a guest appearance from contemporary Zambian/Botswana musician Sampa the Great, whose vocals feature on the song ‘Avalanche of Love’. WITCH had previously appeared on Sampa’s 2022 album, As Above, So Below, with Chanda co-writing and adding guest vocals to the track ‘Can I Live?’
