A.B. Original have dropped into triple j for the last Like A Version of Ausmusic month, recruiting an Aussie legend to help them out.
The hip hop duo made up of Trials and Briggs delivered two guest-heavy songs, kicking things off with a live version of their track January 26. Dan Sultan joined them in the studio for the performance, which kicked off with a note from the boys about moving the date of Australia Day away from 26th January — an issue which triple j has addressed numerous times this year due to mounting pressure to change that day of the Hottest 100.
For their cover, they pulled in an Aussie legend to help them out. Paul Kelly took to the mic to cover his own song Dumb Things with the duo. Kelly sung the hook while A.B. provided the bars, pulling the Oz classic into hip hop territory.
A.B. Original’s debut album Reclaim Australia is out today, and it looks like we won’t need to wait long until the next one.
“Almost done with the second one,” Trials told triple j, so maybe you’ll hear some of it when they play Laneway Festival early next year.
