The 1975’s Matty Healy Plays Surprise Solo Set Supporting Phoebe Bridgers

Matty Healy, of British nouveau emo quartet The 1975, played a surprise solo set in Los Angeles over the weekend.

Armed with just a steel string acoustic guitar, Healy was the opener for night two of Phoebe Bridgers’ “Reunion Tour” stint at LA’s iconic Greek Theatre.

It was Healy’s first public performance since The 1975 played in Dublin on 3rd March, 2020. Healy’s last solo acoustic show was a bushfire relief concert at the Metro in Sydney on 4th February, 2020.

The Greek Theatre performance lasted just 20 minutes, during which time Healy ran through two previously unreleased songs (one of them untitled, the other titled ‘New York’), as well as a few The 1975 favourites, including ‘Be My Mistake’ (from 2018’s A Brief Inquiry into Online Relationships) and ‘Sex’ (from the 2012 EP of the same name).

Bridgers joined Healy onstage for a duet on what would be his closing number, ‘Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America’. Bridgers also duets with Healy on the studio version of the track, which appears on The 1975’s 2020 album, Notes On a Conditional Form.

Earlier this year, The 1975 teamed up with the London-based Filipino musician No Rome and pop artist Charli XCX on the single ‘Spinning’. Healy and his band mate, George Daniel, also produced and co-wrote Our Extended Play, the latest EP by London indie pop artist Beabadoobee.
