Snoop Dogg Is Launching His Own Death Row Streaming Service

In February 2022, Snoop Dogg revealed he’d acquired the iconic hip-hop label, Death Row Records. A number of the label’s biggest releases were subsequently removed from digital streaming platforms, including Dr. Dre’s The Chronic (1992), Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle (1993) and Tha Dogg Pound’s Dogg Food (1995).

Snoop appeared on a recent episode of Drink Champswhere he explained to hosts, N.O.R.E. & DJ EFN, his plans for Death Row’s future. “Those platforms don’t pay,” Snoop said of big streamers such as Spotify and Apple Music. To counter this, Snoop plans to establish a Death Row app.

“Those platforms get millions and millions and millions of streams and nobody gets paid, other than the record labels,” he said. “So what I wanted to do was snatch my music off, create a platform which is something sort of similar to Amazon, Netflix, Hulu – it’ll be a Death Row app. And then the music, in the meantime, will live in the metaverse.”

Snoop went on: “I want to create an avenue where I can show people how to not always have to go through the slave trade, but create our own trade where we engaging with our own fans that’s buying our music.” The Death Row chat begins at the one hour, fifty minute mark of the podcast.
