The final list of inductees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame for 2022 is in, with a varied crop of iconic names set to join the list at the official ceremony in Los Angeles. Despite originally refusing the honour, country music legend Dolly Parton is on the list of inductees for this year, joining Eminem, Lionel Richie, Duran Duran, Eurythmics and more.
Back when Parton initially turned the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame down, the artist said she felt like she wasn’t deserving of the title. But she’s since come around to the idea, having learned that the Hall of Fame has included artists from other genres outside rock and roll.
Dolly Parton to be inducted despite her misgivings
“When I said that, it was always my belief that the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame was for the people in rock music,” Parton said. “And I have found out lately it’s not necessarily that. But if they can’t go there to be recognised, where do they go? And so I felt like I would be taking away from someone that maybe deserved it, certainly more than me since I never considered myself a rock artist. But obviously, there’s more to it than that.”
The inductees are decided upon by over 1000 artists, music industry professionals and historians. The original shortlist for the 2022 Hall of Fame class included Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Dionne Warwick, but they didn’t make the final list.
The 2022 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame class will be honoured at a ceremony in Los Angeles on Saturday, 5th November.
