R. Kelly Denied Bond After Pleading Not Guilty To Sex Crimes

R. Kelly has plead not guilty to charges of sex crimes involving sex trafficking and child pornography.

The R&B artist was denied bond, after a Judge in a US District Court called Kelly “an extreme danger to the community, especially to minor girls.”

The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Judge Judge Harry Leinenweber ordered Kelly be sent back to custody after his initial hearing.

R. Kelly is facing a 13-count indictment on charges including obstruction of justice.

The 52-year-old also faces five additional federal charges in a separate indictment over racketeering, kidnapping, sexual exploitation of a child and forced labor.

TMZ reports that Kelly’s attorney disputes that his client is a flight risk, citing his poor financial situation and fear of flying.

Kelly returned to the Metropolitan Correction Center in Chicago where he’d been held since his arrest last week.

The singer has faced a string of allegations since 2002, with public interest around his case renewed following the release of the Emmy-winning documentary Surviving R. Kelly.
