Private Function were nominated for Best Cover Art at the 2023 ARIA Awards, but the Melbourne/Naarm punk band came away empty-handed (the award went to Forest Claudette’s Everything Was Green). The album in question, 370HSSV 0773H, was released in March 2023. The first 3000 vinyl pressings of the album came with a scratchable cover that featured three Australiana-themed icons hidden under the scratch panels.
The band’s bass player, Milla Holland, didn’t seem too upset by the band’s loss in the category – with the words “Free Palestine” written on her face, Holland took time to smoke from a can pipe on the red carpet. It’s a moment for the ARIA history books. Watch it below.
