Watch Northlane’s New Documentary ‘Negative Energy’

If you’re stuck at home and looking for something good to watch, Sydney metalcore faves Northlane have shared a new documentary by Neal Walters on YouTube entitled Negative Energy.

It captures the band’s process creating their fifth studio album, last year’s ARIA Award-winning Alien and subsequent world tour, as well as diving into other moments in the band’s history. As the film explores, the band have had a pretty intense few years, and some difficult personal challenges to overcome.

Negative Energy is the story of a band on the brink of collapse, filmed over the entire Alien cycle from recording to the end of the world tour and beyond,” reads the short film’s synopsis.

“What you know about the obstacles this band and lead singer Marcus Bridge have faced only scratches the surface. This documentary covers the insurmountable struggles that Northlane have faced over the last few years, and how they fought their way through.”

Alien was an incredibly personal album for the band and Bridges in particular, centring around the vocalist’s upbringing. “I was raised in hell but I made it out,” he commented in a statement about the album around the time of its announcement. “Raised in a place I shouldn’t have been, and no child should have been. But I’ve been able to break free.” He expanded on the process of writing the songs that make up Alien in our interview back in July of last year.
