Melbourne CBD Festival RISING Announces Major 2022 Program

Melbourne’s RISING festival has led a cursed existence to date. Intended for launch in 2020, the event was pushed back to 2021. Then, the plug was was pulled at the last minute due to rising Covid cases in the state capital.

But, ever resilient, RISING will begin anew in 2022, having just announced a mega program of local and international performers who’ll be hitting venues in the Melbourne CBD from Wednesday, 1st – Sunday, 12th June.

The program covers music, dance, theatre and visual arts. On the music side of things, RISING presents headline shows from international acts Moses Sumney, Masego, Baxter Dury, Lucy Dacus, Shabazz Palaces (and Stas the Boss), Midori Takada, Chai (and Buffalo Daughter), Boris, Arab Strap (and Xylouris White), Kelly Lee Owens, Ana Roxanne, Andy Shauf, Yussef Dayes and more.

There’ll also be headline shows from Tkay Maidza, Sampa the Great (w/ KYE, Mwanjé), Harvey Sutherland, Ed Kuepper with Jim White, The Goon Sax, Jim White & Marisa Anderson, and the exclusive RISING commission, Wurukur Djuanduk Balag — Ancestors Are Calling (Melbourne).

The majority of shows include local support acts, such as Becca Hatch (Masego), Our Carlson (Baxter Dury), Snowy Band (Lucy Dacus), Teether & Kuya Neil (Shabazz Palaces), Rot TV (Boris), OK EG (Kelly Lee Owens), Wilson Tanner (Ana Roxanne), Sweet Whirl (Andy Shauf) and EXEK (The Goon Sax).
