Kurt Vile, Neko Case Express Sadness At Death Of The Sadies’ Dallas Good

Dallas Good, guitarist and vocalist for the Canadian rock band The Sadies, died this week at the age of 48.

Good formed The Sadies with his brother, Travis Good, in the mid 1990s. The band released its debut album, Precious Moments, in 1998. The Sadies signed with Yep Roc Records ahead of its fourth album, 2002’s Stories Often Told. Six more studio albums followed, as well as a live record, a soundtrack and collaborations with Andre Williams and John Doe (X).

Yep Roc Records confirmed Good’s departure in a statement. “We are deeply saddened by the sudden passing of our dear friend, Dallas Good, of the Sadies. He died on Thursday, February 17 of natural causes while under doctor’s care for a coronary illness discovered earlier this week. He was 48 years old.”

Kurt Vile wrote on Instagram about his love for The Sadies and Dallas Good. “Dallas is our brother and the Sadies’ our family,” he said. “We’ve toured the states and Canada multiple times. Watching Dallas and his brother Travis play gtr and harmonize with each other onstage was like getting true religion every time, night after night.”

Neko Case posted an old image of Good accompanied by the caption, “I would say something.. but I just can’t… I’m not worthy.” Calexico described Good as “a wonderful musician and friend.”

In The Sadies’ own statement, they called Good a “son, a brother, a husband, a friend, a bandmate, a leader, a force to be reckoned with.” They concluded, “The stage is dark today with the all too soon passing of one of music’s brightest lights.”
