Gretta Ray Takes On Anthemic Gang Of Youths Cover For Triple J Like A Version

Aussie pop legend Gretta Ray has taken on this week’s Like A Version. She took Like A Version veteran, Japanese Wallpaper with her to cover Gang Of Youths’ ‘The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows’.

As you could guess with a Gretta Ray and Japanese Wallpaper collab and of course, a Gang of Youths song, it’s absolutely stunning.

Ray changes up some of the lyrics ever so slightly while belting those notes out as they were originally intended.

In her Behind the Like A Version interview, Gretta Ray explains that she chose the Gang of Youths song for how it feels live.

“I love watching their live shows so much and the whole show is amazing. But it’s a particularly special moment when they play this song,” she says.

“The crowd gets so involved and I really miss watching and playing live shows. And I feel like covering the song is an ode to that missing.”

While she was there, Gretta shared her original, ‘Cherish’. It’s one half of her double release today — she’s shared ‘Cherish’ and ‘The Brink’.

The single is taken from her debut album which is out in just over a month.

Begin To Look Around will arrive Friday, 27th August.
