Big Scary Announce Return With Album Number Six, ‘Wing’

Big Scary have shared details of their sixth studio album Wing, which is set for release next month on Friday, February 16th. It is the band’s third album of the 2020s, following on from 2021’s Daisy and 2022’s Me & You.

To coincide with the album announcement, the band have shared two songs from Wing: The album opener ‘Something to Remember’, and the album closer ‘A Ribbon to Hold Us’. On the former, the duo described the song as being “about surrendering to what you love.”

“It’s a meditation on growth, pretense, and change, and about finding what’s most important through this process,” they wrote. As for ‘Ribbon’, the band note that it “explores the dynamic of an imbalanced love.” “The relationship is in turmoil, with an ongoing pattern of stubborn naivete and broken promises,” they explain.

Concluding their statement on the album, the band have paralleled the themes of Wing with that of both Daisy and Me & You before it. Like those two albums, the band see Wing as focused on “the concept of love and relationships”; unlike those albums, however, Wing views them with “a slight cynicism sneaking in”.

Furthermore, the band explained that Wing was written and recorded prior to vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Tom Iansek’s relocation to the UK and while drummer/vocalist Jo Syme was pregnant with her second child, which is due in March. Due to both of these extenuating circumstances, the band will not be touring in support of the album — nor doing a vinyl release of it. “Both are things we want to do in the future, to celebrate properly with you all and complete the wax set of vinyl of what we’re calling sibling albums,” the band added.
