5 Seconds Of Summer’s Ashton Irwin Hospitalised During US Show

Aussie pop-rock outfit 5 Seconds Of Summer were forced to wrap up a show in Texas earlier then anticipated after drummer Ashton Irwin was hospitalised due to heat exhaustion.

Currently in the US as part of their global Take My Hand World Tour (previously dubbed the No Shame Tour), 5 Seconds Of Summer took to the stage in Houston, Texas on Sunday night, only to cut the show short after Irwin required medical attention.

Taking to their Instagram Stories after the fact, the band shared a statement assuaging any fears, outlining the details before announcing that Irwin is in good stead.

“As you may have heard, last night’s show ended early due to a medical incident during the show,” the group wrote. “Upon experiencing physical symptoms, Ashton was taken to a local hospital for tests and medical review.

“As a result, it was advised Ashton had experienced extreme heat exhaustion. Thankfully and most importantly, he is feeling ok and recovering very well.”

According to reports from fans in attendance, Irwin’s medical incident occurred at roughly the halfway point of the show, which itself took place during a day in which the temperature reached the mid-30s. After the drummer was escorted from the venue, fans were told the group would be taking a break, before the remainder of the show was cancelled.

The group have since revealed that they’ll be postponing their Tuesday night show in Arkansas, while requesting privacy during Irwin’s recovery period.

Currently, the band’s North American tour is scheduled to wrap up in July, with homecoming shows in Australia scheduled to begin in November – two months after the release of their forthcoming album, 5SOS5.
