PREMIERE: Aussie Punk Veterans The Scientists Release First New Music In 30 Years

Aussie post-punk icons The Scientists have returned with their first new music in 30 years. 30 bloody years!

The Perth foursome have just dropped both an A-Side and B-Side: new single ‘Mini Mini Mini’ (a cover of the sixties French icon, Jacques Dutronc) and a re-working of their own ’81 track ‘Perpetual Motion’.

The double-whammy represents their first release since 1987’s ‘Human Jukebox’. So yeah, three decades!!

“Over in France I’d witnessed a couple of femmes singing and giggling to this piece of sixties iconography,” The Scientists frontman Kim Salmon tells Music Feeds of the band’s decision to cover the French tune. “It seemed like fun, plus it had the Scientists minimalist vibe stamped all over it. Or could have. I made a mental note expecting to screw it up and throw it in the recycling. But no! We gave it a go.

“With all this momentum another song soon rolled our way,” he adds. “‘Perpetual Motion’ is known by folk who were around for our embryonic Mark 2 genesis at our infamous Vulcan Hotel residency of early ’82. The song was only ever on an official bootleg of a live-to-air public radio broadcast (thanks, 2SER!)… until now.”

You can catch both songs premiering exclusively via Music Feeds below, while to boot, the band’s classic 1985 lineup of Kim Salmon, Boris Sujdovic, Tony Thewlis and Leanne Chock will be touring Australia together for the first time since 2007 this October & November to coincide with the release.
