Davey Lane – the Melbourne-based musician best known for his 25-year tenure in You Am I – has announced a new solo album entitled Finally, A Party Record. The follow-up to 2020’s Don’t Bank Your Heart On It is set for release next month on Friday, August 15th via Cheersquad Records. To support the release of the album, Lane and his band will also play a trio of launch shows. Details for those, as well as pre-order information for Finally, A Party Record, can be found below.
In a statement shared to his social media, Lane said he was “[as] proud as I’ve ever been of anything ever” of his upcoming fourth solo album. “[It’s been] a long, long time in gestation from my brain to your eardrums,” he wrote. “Co-produced with my dear mate Rob Muinos (Julia Jacklin, Didirri, Rowena Wise), it’s 10 tunes worth of busted hearts and short-circuited synapses wrapped up in a bundle o’ fun. It ain’t for me to say if it’s the best thing I’ve done, but it sure as hell is my most meaningful bunch of songs to date.”
Davey Lane – ‘Over, Over & Out’
Prior to its release, Lane has released three singles from Finally: ‘God, I’m Fucked Up Over You’ from October 2024, ‘Over, Over & Out’ from May and the freshly-released ‘Not Expecting To Fly’, which came out yesterday (July 2nd). The album was pre-empted by a compilation of covers that Lane released last year entitled How To Make Davey, Vol. 1. It featured covers of songs by Hall & Oates, Tim Heidecker, Pink Floyd, Curtis Mayfield, The Band, Squeeze and Supergrass, among others.
Lane has primarily been focused on You Am I in 2025, with the band undertaking the extensive Hi-Fi Daily Double Down tour earlier this year. A revival of their 2013 tour format, the tour saw the band play both 1995’s Hi-Fi Way and 1996’s Hourly, Daily in their respective entireties each night. The band recently returned to the road to continue Hi-Fi Way‘s 30th anniversary celebrations as part of their regional tour; they perform in Chelsea Heights tomorrow (July 4th) and Barwon Heads on Saturday.
