Cold Chisel have shared details of their upcoming release The Big Five-O Live, which will be released as both a live album and a DVD on Friday, August 8th via Universal Music Australia. As its title suggests, the release serves as a document of their 2024 tour of the same name, with the primary focus being the band’s sold-out show at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl last November. A made-for-TV cut of the accompanying concert film, which will be included on the DVD in its full version, was previously premiered on Channel 7 back in May and streamed for a time on the station’s app, 7plus.
In addition to the full Music Bowl set that was recorded, The Big Five-O Live album will also include three songs that were not performed at that show. This includes a rendition of ‘Plaza’, an Ian Moss number from the band’s 1979 album Breakfast At Sweethearts, as well as ‘Mr. Crown Prosecutor’ from their 1998 reunion album The Last Wave Of Summer and ‘Wild Colonial Boy’ from 1982’s Circus Animals. These tracks were all performed by the band the night before at the first Music Bowl show.

The DVD will feature an expanded version of the concert film shown on Channel 7, as well as an expanded documentary featuring interviews with all band members and close associates with the ARIA Hall-Of-Famers, plus over an hour of new footage. “The documentary reveals a concert full of emotion and raw power – and more than a few tears,” press materials for the DVD read. “The film explores Cold Chisel’s incredible story, and interweaves the narratives of the band’s history with some never-before-seen photographs, footage and stories from their 50-year archive.”
In his own press statement from when the original concert film premiered, the band’s long-serving frontman Jimmy Barnes explained why the band selected this particular Melbourne show as the one to showcase as part of The Big Five-O Live. “”Every show on our tour had something special, but the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne – with 37° temperatures and an incredible audience – really brought out a blistering and joyous performance from all of us onstage,” he said. “The crowd nearly drowned us out; they sang so loud and proud. It was a show we will never forget.”
The Big Five-O Live will be available on black, red and picture disc vinyl. Indie record stores will stock the black variant, while the red can be found exclusively at JB Hi-Fi and the picture disc will be sold in limited-edition quantities by Love Police. It will also be available in a double-disc CD digipak.
