Two decades ago, Aussie viewers first welcomed Spicks And Specks onto our teles, into our homes and into our hearts, settling in to watch the iconic trio of Adam Hills, Alan Brough and Myf Warhurst battle it out for music guru supremacy every Wednesday night.
Now, Australia’s favourite music trivia show has returned to our screens, with a brand new 20th Anniversary Gig season premiering on ABC TV and ABC iview this past Sunday night.

Not only were Hills, Brough and Warhurst back with a charming and quick-witted vengeance for the big milestone, they were also joined by a slew of special guests including singer Charlie Collins, comedian Rhys Nicholson, “hot wiggle” John Pearce and comedian Sara Pascoe.
And of course, no ep of Spicks and Specks would be complete without some stellar music performances. Aussie punk legends The Living End closed out the festivities, and longtime fans joyously copped the long-awaited return of Barry Morgan (and his organ).
First hitting the tele in 2005, Spicks and Specks was the ultimate pub trivia night on steroids — if your pub was hosted by Adam Hills, featured surprise serenades by Barnesy and regularly descended into total mayhem.
With its perfect cocktail of brains, bangers, and banter (and a healthy showcase of local talent to boot), the show became entwined in Australia’s cultural fabric faster than you can say ‘name that tune backwards!’
The new anniversary season is promising the return of fan-fave games like Know Your Product, Substitute and Sir Mix N Matchalot, alongside some brand-spankingly new head scratchers with names like Frank Piñata, Musical Chers and Will.A.I.am Shakespeare.
While the roster of musical guests in forthcoming episodes includes big names like Spiderbait, Montaigne, Paul Kelly, Emma Donovan, Pseudo Echo and more.
ICYM Sunday’s big 20th birthday season premiere, you catch the full ep for free on ABC iview right here.
