The War On Drugs Are Back: Listen To First Single From Band’s New Album

The War On Drugs are back. The Adam Granduciel-led band have taken their sweet time about it, but the follow-up to 2017’s A Deeper Understanding now has a release date.

The War On Drugs’ fifth album is called I Don’t Live Here Anymore and it’s set to land on streaming services on Friday, October 9th via Atlantic Records. The record’s first single, ‘Living Proof’, accompanies the album announcement, along with a music video from director Emmett Malloy.

The video finds a grizzled looking Granduciel – the project’s mastermind – strumming an acoustic guitar in a number of windswept locations. It’s a restrained comeback single, comprising light acoustic guitars, piano chords and a typically reflective lyric from Granduciel. In fact, in a statement, the band describes ‘Living Proof’ as “one of the most personal songs Granduciel has ever written.”

The album arrives more than four years after the band’s last studio outing. That record, A Deeper Understanding, was widely hailed as one of the year’s best; an honour that was similarly affixed to 2014’s, Lost in the Dream.

The War On Drugs released their first official live album, Live Drugs, last November, showcasing their mammoth, festival-honed live sound.
