UPDATE: Warped Australia 2013 lineup here now! Check it out!
So Vans Warped Tour Australia is finally making its return in 2013, with the line up announcement set for Wednesday, 10th July and, oh, look – that’s today! Honestly, we can’t contain the excitement, so what better time to refine the list of leaks, rumours and solid possibilities for the lineup?
We’ve been waiting for this moment since Warped promoter AJ Maddah announced the Down Under revival of the tour back in February, so there’s been plenty of time to really hone this list. So fair warning – if you really don’t want to spoil tonight’s announcement, back out now!
OK. Still with us? Good. Just last night we had our first solid Warped line up confirmation, with Canadians Simple Plan announcing a big reveal for tonight – gee, I wonder what that could be? In the last few days, we also had a few highly likely additions drop by way of big Australian news teasers coming from US bands The Dangerous Summer and For All Those Sleeping, both also set to be revealed tonight.
With those three bands in mind, we’ve got good indicators of what we can expect from the line up proper – pop punk with rock and melodic metalcore leanings. This places a statement from Kids In Glass Houses well in the realm of Warped announcements, with the Welsh five-piece also teasing a big surprise for today.
So where does that leave us? Well, we’ve firmed up our list of hints from AJ Maddah, the results of which can be seen below. Last night in one of his Twitter storms, AJ mentioned Perth band The Decline in response to queries about local bands – we’re not sure if he was being flippant but it’s a hot tip nonetheless.
He also dropped an emoji when questioned about Limp Bizkit returning, and hinted that he knew when Escape The Fate were going to be in town, so they’re both getting shifted to the maybe pile.
A couple of bands that we’ve been neglecting have been added to the list. With Maddah confirming a wealth of local talent on the line up, we think Tonight Alive are very likely. They certainly fit the bill to a T, and they’re on the US leg of Warped right now, as are The Used, who Maddah has also mentioned previously.
We’d also like to throw a few wildcard curveballs your way because, hey, speculation’s fun. Consider these last few as flights of fancy, nothing more.
Firstly, the list is missing a good deal of Aussie punk, so we’d like to put forward a few home-grown contenders. Bodyjar are freshly back in the saddle, supporting Descendents earlier this year, and they were at the first-ever Australian Warped back in ’98 so they’d be more than fitting additions.
Also on the ’98 Warped Tour were Frenzal Rhomb – no-one’s mentioned them and that’s a damn shame. The boys are in the form of their lives right now and what better way to celebrate getting an horrific pig/shit worm removed from your brain than by storming the festival you helped usher in?
Where the hell have Kisschasy been? They’re due for a new album, and if it’s in the works like they say it is then they’re definitely going to have something to promote come December. As for internationals, The Color Morale are Warping it up across Europe at the end of the year, as are Chiodos, and honestly there’s far too few -core bands on our list so far.
So that’s what we’ve got, kids. The full lineup’s coming after 10pm tonight, and tickets will be on sale next Thursday, 18th July. You can check out our full, final revised list below, and don’t forget to bone up on what to expect come Warped Tour time with our complete guide – seriously, have a read of that second-last page. How could you not get excited about that?!
